Why does no one take the time to stretch after working out??
Yes, strength is important.
Yes, a lean body is important.
Yes, stamina and endurance are important.
But what about function and performance?
If all we do is stimulate the muscles by challenging them with intensity...
we will neglect to focus on the mobility in our joints AND the quality of our muscle tissue.
We NEED to be able to move smoothly and safely through a full range of motion, and we also need to reduce the tension in our muscles on a regular basis.
High quality muscle comes from...
-good nutrition
-proper warm up
-corrective, balanced exercise programs
-soft tissue work, like massage and foam rolling
-STRETCHING!!
And ya know what's crazy??
It doesn't take a long time to stretch. Especially if you do it consistently.
Oh, and it doesn't take long to warm up either.
I talk briefly about both warming up and stretching in today's pet peeve video. Enjoy!
